A grand specimen tree, this North American oak is a perfect addition to a larger landscaping plan. It is deciduous, with the green leaves turning bright scarlet in autumn. Easy to grow in most conditions, except alkaline soils.
Pin oaks normally grow to 15-20m tall, and about 10m wide. It is naturally a wetland tree, and develops a shallow, fibrous root system, unlike many oaks, which have a strong, deep taproot when young. The specific name palustris means "of swamps".
