Muehlenbeckia complexa, commonly known as maidenhair vine or wire vine, is native to New Zealand. This evergreen vine is characterised by its wiry, tangled stems which can reach lengths of up to 3 meters. The small, rounded leaves are glossy green and arranged alternately along the stems. In late spring to early summer, it produces tiny greenish-white flowers. Maidenhair vine is frost hardy and can tolerate a variety of soil types, though it thrives in well-drained, moist conditions. It is often used as a ground cover, cascading over walls, or as a decorative element in hanging baskets and containers. Good for coastal plantings.
