Fuchsia excorticata is an NZ native, and the largest fuchsia species in the world. Also known as Kotukutuku, this small tree has an interesting twisted trunk with orange-brown papery bark, and purple-red flowers in spring and summer. Native birds love the nectar, and the edible fleshy Konini fruit is sweet and tasty. It is also one of the few NZ natives that is deciduous. Hardy. Grows to approx. 15m tall when mature.
