Dianella nigra, commonly known as NZ Flax Lily, is an evergreen plant native to New Zealand, a good alternative to the Australian cultivars. It typically grows in clumps with strappy leaves approx. 0.5m x 0.5m. Its small blue-purple flowers bloom in clusters atop slender stems, adding ornamental value to gardens and landscapes. Frost hardy and adaptable to a range of soil conditions, Dianella nigra thrives in well-drained, moist soils and is often utilised in mass plantings, borders, or as a ground cover in both residential and commercial landscapes.
