Carpodetus serratus is an NZ native, and also know as Marbleleaf or Putaputaweta. It has striking “marbled” leaves, with plentiful tiny white flowers during summer. These are followed by purple fruit, which ripen to black from March-May. Makes an attractive specimen or shade tree, growing to 5-7m tall when mature. Intolerant of drought and wind, and prefers a moist soil. Frost tender when young. Evergreen.
